Introduced Jane Finnemore - Borough Council Environmental Issues

A very interesting discussion took place between Jane Finnemore and the Residents, to include :-

The possibility of fortnightly collection of bins and the problems that this would cause. Police involved in litter law, compost, teaching, PAL lessons to Year 7 in School, litter picks, kerb side, re-cycling scheme, fly tipping, blue boxes, brown bins (garden waste). The general area of Kidsgrove involving litter, rubbish and street cleansing. Jane Finnemore told Residents that if they have any opinions regarding the above, send a letter to Newcastle Council, and will be recorded.

Graham Sutton responded by saying a meeting had been arranged with Steve Middlehurst on Monday 30th January 06, at 1000hrs to discuss litter and also the lake/wood between Kinnersley Avenue & Park Avenue.

Derek Sharp - Leek Police - unable to attend, Graham Sutton introduced PC David Woodward to speak on his behalf.

PC Dave Woodward explained that the role of Derek Sharp was Road Safety Co-ordinator. He his based in Leek. His role is split between - morning role - "fingerprints & DNA" and afternoon role - "Road Safety Co-ordinator".

Responsible for co-ordinating responses for complaints received. Nuisance vehicles, working in partnership with Borough Councils. Road Safety awareness in schools. Seat belts campaign on at present in some Primary Schools. Speed, parking and wearing seat belts. Metro Count (box by side of lamp post), recording weight, volume, speed and type of vehicle (i.e. car etc)

SPEED WATCH - Scheme operated by Civilians using Flashing Boards.

Staffordshire not operating Speed Watch at the moment. When it becomes "up and running" in this area, there would not be an issue that a member of the Association could go with the Police and take a look at it - must use hi-viz jacket.

NUISANCES

PC Dave Woodward outlined the problems again.

Seizing alcohol off children. Seven officers were patrolling Clough Hall between 1800- 2200 hours on Friday night. Identified the same eight people who have been seen on both occasions in this area. ASBO discussed.

Question Time

PC Dave Woodward answered many questions from the Residents including ASBO, response and co-operation from the Parents, background of the children, suggestions about the hour the Police Station is open, more training required in Schools.

The Chairman thanked the guest speakers and the residents for attending and closed the meeting.
