The recent Computer Course which concludes on Friday of this week has been a great success, well attended, very informative and much enjoyed by all who have attended. It is hoped that a further course can be organised in 2010.

In respect of the Community Involvement Programme new ideas are being sought for 2010 e.g. aerobics for the elderly, dance classes for the elderly, knit and chat classes. If any member does have any interest in these suggestions or would like to make other suggestions please see Graham or Chris Brough as soon as possible.

The School is very pro-active in terms of the Community and we should take the opportunity to use the excellent facilities at the School.

  • 31A Westmorland - the Unit closed on July 29th and should have been cleared and boarded up by now with bollards in place at the entrance, but this has yet to happen. No interest has been expressed in the Unit as yet; the surgeries will continue and will focus on the security and future usage of the Unit.

  • No Cold Calling Zones - Chairman explained that enquiries have been made through Trading Standards and we are now in receipt of all relevant information. The Committee are keen to implement these zones, but there is work and some cost involved. 70% of residents per street must confirm support of these zones. We intend to make this a project next year and we will provide further information ASAP.

  • Chairman then thanked Committee Members and volunteers for planting 1000 daffodil bulbs on the Green outside the Clough Hotel.

At this point Chairman introduced Phil Lovatt from Clough Hall School to talk about the school they are twinned with in the Gambia. Phil explained that 12 students from Clough Hall School visit the school in the Gambia; not only do they socialise with the students out there they also carry out a considerable amount of work e.g, painting and helping with building work, toilets etc. Phil introduced and presented a video of the School Trip in 2008. Indeed a potentially life changing experience for some of our local youngsters. The pupils at Clough Hall School are currently engaged in fund raising activities to provide a new classroom roof for the school in the Gambia.

An excellent and informative presentation; our Chairman was pleased to present Phil with a total amount of £81 which came from the proceeds of tonight's raffle and several private donations from members. Chairman thanked Phil for his talk.

Chairman then handed over to the Police Consultative Committee, chaired by Mrs Iqbal, where Inspector Jarvie gave a brief update in respect of our area and answered fully questions from the floor.

Chairman then organised drawing of the raffle and declared the buffet open

All members were wished a Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.

Next Meeting is on Tuesday 19th January 2010 - Philip Leese "Poor Laws & The Work House System 19th & 20th centuries.
