News .. December and January
Our Christmas celebrations this year were again well attended, thus giving an indication of the success of and need for an active Residents Association in Clough Hall.
Our first event was the December meeting and Christmas Buffet, which started with an illustrated presentation given by Phil Lovatt from Clough Hall School. Phil spoke about the school with which they are twinned in the Gambia and explained how twelve students from Clough Hall visited them, not only to socialise with the students but also to carry out a considerable amount of work, such as painting and helping with general building work.
This was followed by the Police Consultative Committee, chaired by Mrs Iqbal, giving an opportunity for residents to meet their local Neighbourhood Policing Unit. Inspector Jarvie gave a brief update in respect of policing matters in our area and in conjunction with PC Dave Woodward answered questions from the floor. Following the business of the meeting the Christmas buffet was held and the raffle drawn, proceeds from which were donated to aid further work at the school in Gambia.

Our annual Christmas Dinner was once again held at the Travellers Rest, Scholar Green, an excellent meal and an enjoyable evening giving us a further opportunity to socialise. Carol singing held on ‘the green’ was led by the Salvation Army band and despite the cold frosty night the forty or so residents in attendance were in good voice, singing favourites such as ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’. Mince pies provided by the residents association were much appreciated.

Our thanks to the council ‘gritting men’, who by chance arrived just before we started and gritted the area in front of the Clough Hall Hotel where the singing took place. Since that night many of the roads and pavements in Clough Hall haven’t been free from ice and snow; this has prompted us to investigate the possibility of a few grit bins being located at strategic points throughout the estate.
The start of the New Year is an opportune time to thank those who regularly attend and provide valuable input to our meetings. Once again we are indebted to Kidsgrove Police and Councillors, who regularly attend our meetings and provide much valued support and input. Our thanks also go to the guest speakers who give up their time, providing us with varied and interesting topics.
