News .. May, June & July
No doubt you all enjoyed the warm and sunny weather throughout June and into July, giving us the opportunity to go out and enjoy the woodlands surrounding the Clough Hall area. Unfortunately, our enjoyment can so often be spoiled by a thoughtless minority group of people who don't clean up any mess left by their pets and by those who leave piles of beer cans and litter after drinking sessions .... usually under-age.
We are pleased to report that the Borough Council have at last supplied Dog Poo Bins, located in the wooded area behind Kidsgrove Football Club, and we hope more will be made available at various locations in the near future. The woodland areas are used extensively by children, who are put at risk though exposure to dog poo and whilst we realise that the majority of dog owners are very responsible, we do appeal to all dog walkers to clear up after their pets.
Again we are asking for your help to stamp out anti-social behaviour by reporting any incidents to the residents' association or directly to Kidsgrove Police who can be contacted on 03001234455.
During the next few months our committee will be deciding what, if any, changes we could make to our residents' meetings in 2011. To ensure continuity and make the association more effective, our Chairman believes that we should have strong themes running though our meetings next year. We could perhaps look at Adult Care within our society, effective management of the Clough Hall woods and lakes, etc.
Our chairman recently met with the newly appointed Communities Reporter for BBC Radio Stoke and learnt that there will be opportunities for us to promote and discuss some of our long-standing issues though the medium of radio. We will not only be exploring the most effective way in which our association can take advantage of this offer, but also hope to hear how other residents' associations overcome problems which they experience.
Guest speaker for the July meeting was Dr. John Shapter
talking about 'Dental Myths Busted'
Our guest speaker for the July meeting was Dr. John Shapter and his topic for the evening was Dental Myths Busted. A short history of how dental practice has developed through the ages from pre-Roman times until today, and the impact of the ‘1921 Dental Act' started the illustrated presentation. John then explained that tooth decay and gum disease could be avoided if appropriate preventative action, by means of a disciplined approach to oral health, had been taken, thus avoiding future remedial action at the dentist.
Thanks were expressed to John for an interesting and enlightening presentation.
