MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 19th June 2007

Chairman opened meeting and welcomed the speakers

Special welcome to Melvyn Hill – Vice Chairman – Knypersley newly formed Residents Association.
Tina Evans – Talke Pits Resident Association.
Sylvia Burgess – Newly Elected Borough Council for Butt Lane.

Leaflet Distribution - Thanked members who had helped with leaflet distribution.
Litter Pick – Sunday 13th May – Special thanks from ‘Parks & Open Spaces’ to everyone who took part.
Charity Quiz Night – 4th July – Kidsgrove Cricket Club – Complete sell out, with proceeds to Douglas Macmillan.

Westmorland Unit – Hoping to arrange a meeting before our AGM, with Andrew Brunt from Stafford.

Received £50.00 donation from the outgoing Mayor of Kidsgrove, Sylvia Bowyer. We conveyed our thanks.
Lottery Bonus Ball – still going well and raising money towards the funds.

Butt Lane Priority Action Group – Graham has still got free kits, safety alarms, window alarms, etc. donated by the Action Group – should anyone require any items – see Graham.

Recycling – Visit by 3 committee members to the Recycling Plant. Graham informed residents that clean, dry clothing could also be re-cycled. – Speak to Graham for more information

Staffordshire Neighbourhood Watch Forum – Graham attended the last meeting and would be going to the next meeting on 21 July in Birmingham.

AGM – Annual General Meeting will take place on 24th July. An annual report will be completed before this date, showing items outstanding. Keith Blease-Bourne will be the speaker. There will be a free buffet. Anyone interested in becoming a committee member – please let Graham know before the AGM. Graham informed residents, he was very pleased with the committee and the hard worked they had done – but there was still a lot to do.




Trading Standards – Information received from the Trading Standards regarding an e-mail scam, supposedly from Marks & Spencers, was read and residents warned – this was just a scam and to ignore.

Chairman introduced Margaret Jones, Grindeys Solicitors

Margaret gave a brief outline of Grindeys Solicitors.

She covered topics relating to:

Why make a Will!
Why use a Solicitor!
Check Wills are up-dated.
What happens if you die without making a will – when children are involved/not involved.
Review your will – changing circumstances.
Put Funeral directions in the will.
Inheritance Tax.
Discretionary Trust.
Trust Assets.
Enduring Powers of Attorney - to be replaced by ‘Lasting Power of Attorney’ from 1st October 2007.

A very informative topic, residents were welcome to complete an application form requesting Grindeys to contact them to discuss inheritance/tax needs.

Retirement Planning UK are a local Independent advisory company, located in Barlaston

Topics covered:

Investments for Income
AVC
Inflation
Open Market Options
Capital Investment Bonds
And re-confirmed the need to make a Will.

They offer free individual consultations and issue report.

Again, another very interesting topic.

Graham closed the meeting.
